U of M Club of New York President's Welcome
On behalf of the U of M Club of NYC leadership, thank you for taking time to visit our club's website. We'd especially like to thank those who are members* and everyone who is actively involved. As we serve one of the largest University of Michigan alumni populations (13,000+ alumni) in the world, your U of M Club of New York City offers an eclectic assortment of award-winning programming intended to appeal to alumni of all ages, interests and backgrounds. Our club hosts large sports-watching parties along with community-service oriented events and cultural/educational opportunities unique to NYC.
Some examples of recent events associated with the club:
- "Bringing Ann Arbor to NYC": meeting with Coaches, former Athletes, holding various networking events, tasting food from local Ann Arbor restaurants at the "Taste of Ann Arbor" amongst many things.
- Tapping into local culture and alumni talent: leveraging the exciting offerings unique to NYC by attending Broadway hits followed by a meet-and-greet with the actors, networking on various rooftops through the city. We also offer our club members the opportunity to play sports - including but not limited to touch football, soccer, basketball, volleyball and softball - and attend events that showcase local alumni talent (e.g., comedians, writers, singers, dancers, actors).
- Partnering with others: our club partners well with other niche affiliate clubs like UMEC, Ross Business School and Big 10 alumni clubs to ensure we reach the broadest possible audience. Together, we have offered a boat cruise around Manhattan, several high-profile networking events, book tours, NCAA sports-watch parties, a Big Onion walking/eating tour, professional sporting events with the Mets, Yankees, Rangers and Liberty as well as various community-service opportunities like Hands on NY and NY Cares.
Additionally our club has focused on offering career services-oriented programming to assist alumni impacted by the down economy/job market in NYC. We have held networking events and begun to build out the AAUM mentoring program with localized efforts and created new leadership opportunities in the club to help alumni develop themselves professionally outside of the workplace.
Finally, our club provides support of our local alumni population as well future Wolverines coming from the NYC area. Every year we look forward to increased support from alumni as they attend club events and give generously to our Scholarship Fund which helps NYC high school students attend the University and prolong the pipeline of talented and accomplished Wolverines.
If you are interested in learning more about club leadership opportunities, supporting our scholarship efforts or upcoming club programming, please explore our club website, subscribe yourself to our weekly newsletter, join our Facebook FanPage, LinkedIn, follow us on Twitter, or contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you at future events this year!

2012 Outstanding Club Award for the Metro Region
The New York club exceeded expectations in the programming area by hosting an active and diverse calendar of events that engaged a wide range of alumni with different interests. This calendar included an impressive mix of athletic, lifelong learning, social, and community service events and is a leading example for other clubs. The New York club also received perfect scores in the areas of Membership and Public Relations and Promotion. The committee was impressed that the club hosts a welcome event that welcomes new alumni to the New York area with a "Taste of Ann Arbor". The club also does an outstanding job of utilizing the club's listserv and Facebook page to promote its events.
